Tobba’s founder Jasper Li views perfume as a work of art and a way of expression. Having transformed abstract ideas into symbols and compositions in his paintings, the artist-perfumer is then influenced by the statement “Art is not bounded by one dimension”, which drastically changed the course of his artistic journey and which continues to drive him to experiment with different mediums. Scent being one of them, turns out to be the perfect canvas for him. Jasper translates the visual into the olfactory, utilising a wide variety of ingredients to build layers, add depth and create textures while evoking heart-warming memories that form the foundation of the audience’s interpretation and which render the fragrances timeless and limit-defying.

The founder discovered his love for olfactory pleasures at an early age, thanks to the distinct scents of his mother’s vintage sandalwood fans, wooden balls and bottles of classic perfume. These memories have quietly sat at the back of his head since then and have become the essence of his fragrance collection after being rediscovered in recent years.

Jasper’s paintings are mostly defined by the juxtaposition between the figurative and the abstract which vividly portrays his imagination. Similar motifs can be found in Tobba’s fragrances, seeing the contrast between natural ingredients and their synthetic counterparts that allows one to come up with one’s very own interpretation of the concoction. In lieu of telling stories, Jasper is offering the audience a gateway to emotional liberation and encourages them to establish their own connection with the perfumes.
